Our Learning Heroes

Building Learning Power

We strive to ensure that children are confident and creative builders of their education and have a willingness to learn. We understand that learning is life long and therefore we aim to develop self-awareness of how we learn and develop successful dispositions which can be used to aid learning in the classroom and the future. We equip children with a language for learning that is used in all classrooms across the school, this helps everyone to talk about and understand learning to learn. Each class have four learning heroes which are fun characters that represent four learning skills; resilience, resourcefulness, reciprocity and reflectiveness. They are shared with children through puppets, stories and real life situations and demonstrate good learning behaviours that motivate and inspire our children. How well you learn is not a matter of how bright you are, it is a matter of experience and being helped to understand the way you learn. Learning to learn can be developed by everyone, there are no limits. Our friendly learning heroes ensure that learners at Meredith are successful, confident and aspirational.

Meet Tough Turtle. He is resilient and always tries his hardest in his learning. He perseveres and will always have a go!
Meet Solver Snail. She is resourceful and ready to learn in different ways. She takes her time to think about predict and plan her learning and makes links with what she already knows.
Meet Reflective Ray. He is reflective and ready to revisit and edit his learning. He knows what sort of learner he is and knows how he learns best.
Meet Collaborative Crab. She is reciprocal and learns well in a team as well on her own. She knows how to be flexible – to compromise and to harmonise when working together.
